The Power and Durability of the Petrol Lawnmower

While there is little doubt that the electric lawnmower is more widely used than the self propelled petrol lawnmower, there are a number of ways in which it is inferior. The vast majority of electric lawnmowers are used by home owners with fairly small gardens, and the attraction is usually due to price – as they are comparatively cheap, and ease of use – as they are lighter than petrol lawnmowers and easier to start. Professionals however, will almost always invest in a petrol lawnmower, and there are a number of good reasons for this:

1. They are tougher. Petrol lawnmowers are far more durable than their electric counterparts as they are generally metallic and can withstand plenty of use and are not easily damaged, unlike a plastic electric version.

2. They are free roaming. As you have no need to plug a petrol lawnmower into the mains, you have much more flexibility to get around the garden and reach even the most difficult places. This is especially relevant when mowing a large garden, where a cable can be a real nuisance. You are also free of the ever present danger of mowing the cable by accident.

3. They can mow in the wet. Unlike electric mowers, petrol mowers can be used to cut wet grass which, depending on your location, could be a very useful benefit.

4. They are more powerful. Probably the main reason for choosing this type of lawnmower is the added power they provide. Even long grass can be tackled with relative ease and when you have a large garden to deal with that has neglected for a while this can make a massive difference.

Though more expensive you can see how the petrol lawnmower retains its place in the market. You have to balance the increased cost against the added quality it affords. If you consider that for a medium to large lawn you may need to replace an electric lawnmower at least once over a ten year period, then the investment in something that will comfortably last at least that long makes a great deal more sense.
