4 Tips on Using Pink Rugs

Pink rugs can be wonderful but only if you choose the right rug for the right room and use it in the right way. Here are four tips for making sure that your pink rug makes your room look good.

1. Save Hot Pink for Contemporary Rooms

A traditional room needs a more subdued form of pink than you might find in a Barbie doll’s house. Try colors like “Ashes of Roses” or even a peachy pink with traditional wooden furniture and decoration. If you have a modern style living room or a teenager’s bedroom to decorate, however, bright pink rugs might be just what you need to add a burst of color.

2. Combine Pink with Another Color

If you feel that pink will be too much on its own (perhaps too feminine or too bright) you could combine pink with another color in a patterned rug. In a traditional room, look for a small scale pattern such as you find in a Chinese rug. In a contemporary room, patterns can be large scale and more dramatic.

3. Spread the Pink Around

Don’t make your rug the only pink item in the room. Make sure that you add a few more pink accessories elsewhere so that the colors tie in and the color scheme hangs together. If you have a bright pink rug for example add a few hot pink cushions. If you have a Chinese rug with pink background look for a throw in a similar shade.

4. Don’t Overdo the Pink

Pink can be quite overpowering especially in its brighter forms but even with the more subtle shades it is better as an accent color than as the main color in a room. Don’t try to use a pink rug, pink striped wall paper, pink floral curtains and pink bedding or sofa cover all in one room. It’s too much and will spoil the whole effect of your rug.
