Don’t Ignore Your Hemorrhoid Symptoms
It’s true that for the vast majority of people, hemorrhoids are just a minor annoyance that don’t interfere with day to day life but that doesn’t mean you should ignore your symptoms or forgo a doctor’s visit. There are of couple of very good reasons not to just ignore your symptoms and they are:
1) It may be more serious than just hemroids. Both colon cancer and the polyps that lead to colon cancer have symptoms that are similar to hemorrhoids. Both may cause discomfort in the anal canal and bleeding during bowel movements. I think its human nature to assume that serious diseases always have serious symptoms but this is not always the case. Both colon cancer and polyps can be removed and successfully treated if caught early; the key is to catch it as early as possible.
2) Ignoring your current hemroid symptoms can lead to a more serious hemorrhoid condition in the future. For example, in the case of hemorrhoids located inside the anal canal, which is called internal hemorrhoids, if left untreated it can lead to prolapsed or strangulated hemorrhoids which are much worse. A prolapsed hemorrhoid is an internal hemorrhoid that becomes so swollen or strained that it pushes outside the anal canal and a strangulated hemorrhoid is when this prolapsed hemorrhoid then becomes trapped outside the anal canal because the sphincter muscle contracts. Both of these conditions then become much more painful than simple case of internal hemorrhoids and may even go on to require surgery.
So, as you can see, ignoring your “simple” hemorrhoid problem should not be something you even consider. Set up an appointment with your doctor to get a complete exam, this is likely to include a colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is a small price to pay to insure that you have a long and healthy future.
