Common Household Stains
The most common household stains, in my opinion are: Blood, coffee, nail polish, pen ink, urine, mildew, grape juice and ketchup.
Blood stain removal and Ketchup you would clean the same way. Blot up as much of the stain as you can with a white towel, We use white so we can see how much is there. Go from the outside in so you won’t spread it around too much. Wet the stain down with a little bit of water and let it soak for about a minute. Then blot it up with the white towel till you can’t see any more color on the towel.
Take a little bit of mild detergent and put it on the stain, rub it into the stain then blot up the excess. Keep doing that till there’s no evidence of the stain on the towels. After the stain is removed then sprinkle, I would use a water bottle, and blot as much of the excess as you can, then place the white towel over the area and place some weights, I would use books, and leave it there till the area is completely dry. This is the base method you use for almost all stains. Most stains can be taken care of with just this method but there are a few that need a little extra TLC.
To Remove pen and ink stains use the same method only exclude the Detergent. If that doesn’t work then use the detergent. Don’t forget to rinse well as that will help to get rid of the stain.
Coffee and grape juice you would clean the same way. Use the method for blood and Ketchup, but before you rinse, pour a little hydrogen peroxide one the area then a little ammonia, make sure a window is open in the area your working in and/or a fan so you won’t choke. Then Rinse the area well.
To remove nail polish, use the base method as before, but instead of rinsing with water use nail polish remover.
Urine, use the base cleaning method, but instead of using the detergent use either a dry cleaning solvent or alcohol blot dry immediately, repeat till the stain is gone.
For mildew removal your best course of action is to use a specialist product which you can buy from any good hardware store.
