Solar lighting: Going green

Nowadays many people decide to use solar panels for outdoor lighting instead of conservative wired lighting because they are considering the environment. Going “Green” is not just thinking about the environment, it also starts to become a trend. Fashion designers make great designs using recycled materials, Football clubs are using shirts that exist of 100% recycled fabrics and people start to use solar lighting for their garden and landscape.

Doing the right thing for the environment is one thing, but it also has to be practical. If you are not living in a country with a lot of sun hours a day than solar lighting panels will not work for you. The bulbs have to face the sun the entire day in order to load their batteries. That is why you can also not place them in the shades. If you do live in a country with much sun than they can be a true addition to your garden, landscape or even your driveway.

The advantage of this type of lighting is that you don’t have to use electricity anymore which is a huge saver for your electricity bill. However, there are high initial costs associated with them which makes many people decide to still buy conventional lighting. Another advantage is that you can install them very easily. All you have to do is stick them in the ground or hang them at a wall faced to the sun, you don’t have to connect them to the power network which saves you time and effort.

You can use them for many purposes. You can create the best effects by placing them in to your garden or your landscape. You could also decide to go for solar powered driveway lights because you can place them very easily near your driveway. However, they are not really suitable for walkway lighting or illuminating your porch because they are not bright enough to do that. If you want to lit your driveway and your walkway than you could best decide to go for a mix and use them both.
