Shower Pump, Convenient Way of Increasing Water Pressure
When installing a walk in shower or wet room in your house, you have to make sure that you have a constant adequate water pressure for your shower. You might find that you have adequate water pressure for bathtub and faucet but it might not be enough for the shower since it is higher than the other outlets. Low water pressure in your shower happen because the shower head is too close to the water level in the cold water storage tank. You will need at least 1 meter distance height between the shower head and the water level in the storage tank. Remember, the higher the distance the greater the water pressure.
If you find your house lacking of water pressure, one convenient way to fix this is to add a shower pump. Shower pump not only increase the pressure of the water but it will regulate and give a consistent water pressure. Depending on the type, model, power or bar of the shower pump and where in the plumbing you connected the shower pump, it can increase the pressure not only the shower but also other faucet.
There are two type of shower pump that in the market.
Single impeller shower pump – this has a single driving blade that provides the water pressure and it is connected to the cold water pipe system. This should be installed between the mixer valve and the head. This is less expensive since it has no added feature.
Twin impeller shower pump – this is connected to hot and cold water pipe system and is more convenient since it can regulate the water temperature. This is usually installed beside the hot water tank.
Both have either manual or automatic on and off option. With automatic on and off and also both type of shower pump have negative and positive head shower pump. Depending on the location of the main cold water storage, like if it is above the shower level, then you need to use positive head shower pump while if it is below then negative head shower pump is required.
For convenience, you pay a price. Since a shower pump will force more water out of the shower, you will use more water for the same time of shower, so your utility bill increases.
