These Techniques Might Help You Sleep

Sleep is our body’s way of saying we need to rest for maintenance. Although our human body is an efficient machine, it’s not completely perfect. We don’t run on perpetual energy, you know.

Our body needs to rest for the cells to recuperate, and for our brain to sort out all the information it was forced to take in the whole day.

When I had some serious insomnia problems, I went looking for ways to help me sleep. Ignoring the issues never helps you; they’re bound to haunt you back. There are a lot of ways you can improve your sleep. You can try a few bedroom tricks, and see if they work for you.

Start by doing these simple techniques:

Technique 1: Don’t watch TV before sleeping. Use your bed for sleeping only, and not for late night TV or DVD marathons. The light from both would keep you up all night. It’s best to take the TV out of the bedroom altogether.

Technique 2: Nighttime is for bedtime: Don’t even consider hitting the gym a few hours before bedtime. Your adrenaline and senses will still be hiked up when you go to bed, you’re bound to stare at the ceiling for hours at end. Relax and do some light reading. You can do your exercise early in the morning.

Technique 3: Mom was right when she told us drinking caffeine would keep us up all night. Science took a long time to get to the bottom of that saying though. Researchers recently conducted a study at UT Southwestern Medical Center, which said that caffeine blocks the action of adenosine. What is adenosine, you ask? Well adenosine is released by certain parts of the brain when it’s tired. This adenosine slows us down, so we can sleep.

Sleeping should be as easy as pie. If you have problems with the quality of your sleep, make an appointment with your doctor. Sometimes sleep disturbance is a sign of health problems so don’t ignore it. There are many possible reasons for insomnia, both physical and psychological. Your doctor may be able to help you discover what your reason is.
