Interior Design and Canopy Beds
As an interior designer I am always interested in following the latest trends and trying to workout what is hot and what is not. Well it has become very clear over the last little while that there is a big swing back towards canopy beds and bedding. This is particularly true when it comes to girls canopy bedding, which is really popular at the moment. And I can understand why. There’s been so much cool minimalist design recently that designers haven’t had much outlet for their colorful side. At least they can rely on the kids, and certainly little girls, to keep the drive for color alive. Hopefully with more color in the children’s rooms the adults might let their hair down a bit and add a bit of color elsewhere.
When it comes to choosing the right canopy bed or simple bed canopy for your child I think it’s worth making a couple of points about longevity and good taste. While I wholeheartedly support going for something with some color that doesn’t mean you should choose something gaudy. You should consider choosing decoration and furniture for your children that reflects the overall style of your home.
The point I’m trying to make is that there is an awful lot of cheap rubbish out there. There are plenty of companies trying to make a quick buck off your children by selling themed beds or bedding that are either over priced or of poor quality. Don’t get sucked into this. Remember that many of the kids TV programs or films will be nothing more than a passing fad for your child so resist the temptation to fill their rooms with, say, the latest Transformers duvet cover.
You child’s bedroom should reflect their youth not the latest movie craze. Many of these products, as well as being fairly ugly, are often not that well made and will start to look tatty pretty quickly. My recommendation would be to spend a little extra time and money researching non branded and well made products. Keep the bed frame simple and then accessorize with strong colors on your walls, either paint or wallpaper and with unique linens and canopy drapes.
Egyptian cotton is always a good bet when it comes to linens, well made and long lasting, and although plain you can jazz them up with some colorful cushions. For the bed canopy why not check out the great websites where individual craftspeople sell their wares.
