Does Registry Easy 2010 Make Using A Registry Editor A Thing Of The Past?
Each year, a new version of Registry Easy arrives to automate repairs to the Windows registry file. This article looks at the 2010 release to see if it can drag advanced users away from using a registry editor.
The program has always been a popular tool for registry repairs. It lets you scan for faults, automate repairs and optimize settings. The latest release downloads quickly and installs without any trouble.
The 2010 interface is only slightly different from previous versions and disappointingly doesn’t have the level of customization and scan choices that some other tools provide. What the application does well is scan for faults and completes the repairs and for the majority of users this may suffice.
The addition of system tools to remove junk and duplicate files, as well an evidence cleaner, are welcome additions to most people’s computer maintenance and repair application toolkit. An Internet Explorer plug-in scanner is also added (and works well) but in this day and age when Firefox is gaining mass appeal it is surprising to not see a similar Firefox plug in scanner.
However, advanced users would welcome the chance for more detailed/focused scans of the registry. There will always be some need to use the regedit registry editor (or commercial tools) for making more minute alterations to the registry, but if registry cleaners only provided more detailed scan results and scanning options then it would make tweaking the registry a thing of the past.
Registry Easy is a perfectly reliable tool for repairing registry faults but it won’t completely do away with using a registry editor for advanced users. If the current release is anything to go by, then future releases will no doubt expand on the PC maintenance and repair features (i.e. data cleaners/wipers etc.) rather than provide a deeper registry feature set.
