Shellfish Allergy Prevent Food Allergy
Shellfish allergy is a very common food allergy. This allergy often occurs in older children and adults. It may also show at any age because of the food that was eaten previously that seem did not have any problem. Someone who developed this allergy may be allergic to selected types of shellfish or has an allergic reaction to all shellfish. Shellfish are marine animals which have shells such as lobster, clams, shrimp, octopus and squid.
A person found with this allergy may always have this type of allergy. This likely cannot be taken away from a person’s body. Many people who had this allergy did not ever lose it. So, if a person finds himself or herself having an allergy should be extra careful ordering fried food in restaurants. They may have used the oil from the shrimp they cooked to a different dish like French fries or fried chicken.
Someone who has this allergy is sometimes advised not to eat foods which contain iodine. Iodine can be found in seaweeds and shellfish. Iodine can also be found on things such as X-ray dyes and cleaning products. A person with an allergy with shellfish should strictly avoid eating shellfish to prevent oneself from any allergic reaction.
Allergic reactions will take effect after a few hours or even just a few minutes of eating a food containing allergen. The effect may be severe to some and may just be mild to some. A mild allergic reaction will develop itching and some hives. A severely allergic person may experience symptoms which is life threatening such as throat swelling and breathing problems.
An individual who thinks of having a shellfish allergy and wants to find out as early as possible should see a doctor. They can perform tests that will determine the allergy. It will be very helpful since an early diagnose can prevent future reactions. The doctor can also give advice so that allergic reactions could be prevented.
